Hi, I’m Lucile and I’m a postdoctoral researcher in Machine Learning applied to the health and welfare of cattle at University College Dublin, within VistaMilk.

I graduated from Oniris (France) with a MSc in Food Science. Then, I got a PhD in Machine Learning where the target was to find out the behaviours expressed by cattle and their location on pasture from motion sensors. I’m now continuing on similar topics as my research aims to detect stressful events and diseases in cattle from the same kind of motion sensors.

I’m particularly interested in education and disseminating research to a large audience!

Hi, I’m Alan Crowe and I am a PhD Student within VistaMilk at Teagasc Moorepark.

I graduated from University College Dublin with a BSc in Agricultural and Animal Science. My research aims to test different dairy cow breeding strategies and technologies. We hope that by using more advanced technologies, we can breed better dairy cows for the future. We also aim to improve the quality of the beef cattle produced from dairy herds.

My research has the potential to improve the sustainability of Irish dairy farming.

Hi, my name is Eoin Delaney, and I’m a Ph.D. student at University College Dublin in Machine Learning within VistaMilk.

I graduated from UCD with a BSc in Mathematics, Physics and Education. My main research focus is in eXplainable AI (XAI) where I try to understand and demystify the inner workings of complicated predictive models. I hope that my research will promote the use of some prediction tools by farmers by giving them confidence in the technology!

Besides my research, I love programming, sport and travel and I am very passionate about science communication and education!

Hi, I’m Jennifer Drohan and I am a PhD Student within VistaMilk at Walton Institute in Experimental Molecular Computing and Communication.

I graduated from Waterford Institute of Technology with a BSc in Molecular Biology with Biopharmaceutical Science. My research is centred on the design and development of agri-targeted molecular computing and communication devices.

I hope to be able to use these devices to monitor animal health and potentially detect disease-specific molecules within the animal.

Hi! I’m Eimear and I’m the Education and Public Engagement manager at VistaMilk.

I help our researchers to communicate their research in a variety of ways. When I was in school, I loved science and languages. When I finished secondary school, I studied Physiology at University College Cork and got my degree. After college, I worked in labs, hospitals and industry doing science and research. 

My favourite part of my job is helping scientists develop creative ways to tell their research story; just like in this game we have developed “Coding with cows”.

Hi, I’m Claudia and I’m a PhD student at Tyndall National Institute within VistaMilk.

I graduated from the University of Minho (Portugal) with a MSc in Biomedical Engineering. My research involves developing a smart bolus system for multi-parameter monitoring bovine microbiome using electronic circuitry. As part of the effort to improve the dairy industry efficiency, the smart bolus provides a tool for analysing and monitoring changes in a cow's gut, associated with diet, environment, and others.

I hope that my research will improve the health of cows!

Hi! I’m Agnieszka and I’m a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Research Fellow at Crop Science Department in Teagasc Oak Park.

I obtained a PhD in Molecular Biotechnology at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan (Poland) for my work on essential and non-essential metal uptake and transport in plants. Now, I am developing and testing approaches to use DNA information to predict nutritional value in forage breeding programmes.

I am always keen on finding new ways to communicate science!

My name is Carmel, and I’m studying Creative Digital Media at MTU. 

This past summer, I had the opportunity to work as a Graphic Design Intern for Vistamilk, mainly for the Education and Public Engagement department. 

I created the cow characters and artwork for the EU Coding Week project. I had created the cow characters for another project I had worked on with Vistamilk and I thought they would also be nice to use for this activity.

Hi, my name is Eoin O'Shea. I am a primary school teacher who worked with VistaMilk for the Summer this initiative was developed.

I graduated from Dublin City University with a Bachelors in Education. I was brought on board as part of the DCU 'STInt' programme (Stem Teacher Internship). This programme aims to give teachers experience in the STEM sector to bring back to the classroom. 

STEM subjects are a very important part of my teaching and I aim to provide each pupil with the opportunities to explore STEM in a a variety of meaningful ways.
